Aldinga Bay Cafe — Brand Identity
When a good mate of mine bought an Indian restaurant, he inherited an odd name — "Aldinga Bay Cafe".  Instead of changing it, he wanted to lean into the quirk further and build upon it so that it makes more sense as an Indian Curry House.
To make sure "Aldinga Bay Cafe" reads as an Indian Restaurant at first glance, I paired the logo with a Sanskrit-style script that does a lot of the heavy lifting. Add in some vintage poster texture, grain, scratches, saturated colour blocks, and the whole thing feels like a poster for an old Bollywood film.
To add to the brief: the restaurant is beachside and also does fish and chips for takeaway. So we had two flavours to blend: authentic Indian curry house and Aussie chip shop. Enter the mascot: a well-fed "mer-tiger", crowned and dripping in gold jewellery. Tiger for the "No.1" pride, mermaid for the beach and the fish, and well-fed to represent great food.
If you drop by Aldinga Bay Cafe, ask them for a curry on chips. It's not on the menu, but it should be, and I'm keen to know if they'll make it for you!
